Critics say Imus should get the boot.

Syndicated radio host, Don Imus, is under fire for remarks he made about the Rutgers womens basketball team last week. After calling them “nappy-headed hos”, Rev. Al Sharpton is saying that he won’t be satisfied until Imus resigns. Imus was discussing the game that Rutgers lost the night before with his producer when they both spoke of the team disrespectfully. I think Sharpton has a good point when he says that Imus is not some unemployed comedian like Michael Richards who went on a racist rant at someone in the audience of one of his shows, Imus is watched/listened to by millions of people a day who uses the airways to voice his racist/sexist remarks. Imus is a member of the National Broadcasters Hall of Fame and has been on the air for nearly 40 years. He delivered an on-air apology on Friday and both WFAN and MSNBC condemned his remarks.
Here is the footage from MSNBC:

And here is the apology:

“There aren’t enough boats”…Titanic all over again

A cruise ship from Greece sunk off the coast of Santorini this week with over 1,000 passengers on board. Only two people are said to be missing, a French father and his 16-year-old daughter. I didn’t think sinking cruise ships could happen in this day and age, the most coincidental part of the article is when a woman was quoted as saying the ship didn’t have enough lifeboats…just like Titanic. Some passengers had to walk a plank from the sinking cruise ship to a ferry. The majority of the passengers were from the US. I wonder what this event is going to do to Greece’s tourism. The article mentions that the newspapers in Greece were quite critical of the event, and spokespersons for Greek tourism say that they’re not taking this tragedy lightly. Who knew that in 2007 cruise ships were still capable of sinking…I thought for sure there was equipment/software that could sense icebergs and/or huge reefs from miles away. Perhaps there is, and maybe the captain was very ignorant and that’s why he’s at fault for this whole thing.
Here’s some footage of the sinking cruise ship:

Donald Trump Almost Shaved His Head

Hey…I think that would’ve been the best thing that ever happened to his hair, or lack thereof. He won a bet with Vince McMahon, the owner of World Wrestling Entertainment, Vince McMahon. It was a battle of the billionaires type of feud and they both had wrestlers fight on their behalfs, Trump’s fighter- Bobby Lashley won. The only reason why this article caught my attention is because last week I saw the clip of Trump slapping McMahon and I couldn’t get over how awkward the whole thing was. It seems like Trump does anything to make headlines. Isn’t everything in the WWE staged anyway? Trump and McMahon probably planned this whole thing in advance, he probably forked over a few million so that he wouldn’t have to shave his strawberry-blonde comb-over.

Here’s the clip of trump slapping McMahon…..

Mother Accused of Prostituting Daughter

CNN.com  has a video-story about a woman who was caught selling her 7-year-old daughter for sex. She advertised her daughter online and got caught by a local police officer who was pretending to be interested. You have to be really mentally-ill to do something like this. The Sheriff isn’t even releasing the name of the woman to protect the little girl’s identity. The video shows the outfits that the mother had picked out for her daughter to wear, and when she talked to the undercover officer she told him that she’ld have her daughter do whatever he wanted her to do.  She has pleaded not guilty, but I have no idea how this woman thinks she’s going to get out of this one, she’s sick. The 33-year-old Michigan woman has 4 other children, who are all in protective custody now. Click here for an article about this from wfsb.com

Blogger Stops Blogging Because of Death Threats

CNN.com has a video-story on it’s website about Kathy Sierra, a blogger who received death threats on her blog. She blogged about technology, a topic that would typically not seem controversial, but one day someone didn’t like the way Kathy blogged and started threatening her life. She also recieved graphic pictures, one of a noose (sp?) around her neck. The scary thing about threatening on the internet is the anonymity…a complete stranger can threaten you and not be caught. In some states, laws against online threatening are just like verbal threatening, it’s just a misdeamenor, but I think anyone in Kathy’s position would be just as scared as her. She was so scared that she has stopped blogging.  Here’s a link to Kathy’s blog where she actually addresses the death threats: http://headrush.typepad.com/creating_passionate_users/2007/03/as_i_type_this_.html

OK Go wins YouTube Award.

The OK Go music video to their song “Here it goes again” has won an award for the best user-generated video from YouTube. The music video features the band members simply doing a routine on treadmills for the entire duration of the song, as they are singing (lip-synching I assume).  The head of marketing for YouTube says that the band shot the video in one take and returned the treadmills the next day, but if I’m not mistaken I believe when OK Go won an MTV VMA this year, they said it took them a few takes which is much more believable. If you haven’t seen the video, it’s pretty entertaining…

Anna Nicole Accidentally Overdosed.

The Florida Medical Examiner that has completed Anna Nicole Smith’s autopsy says that she died of an accidental drug overdose. She had anti-anxiety drugs, weight-reducing drugs, methadone, and possibly other vitamins in her system. He also says that an infection from a needle injection and the flu also contributed to her death.  A sedative called chloral hydrate was also found in her system which, if combined with other drugs (one type of which was found in her system), can be fatal.  It’s been six weeks since Anna Nicole died, hopefully now the media can calm down a little over this story since the final autopsy results have been released.  Here is CNN “Breaking News” coverage from February 8, 2007 when she died…

Pet food poisoned.

Cosmo <—My dog.

This article is about the fact that somehow rat poisoning got into containers of “Menu Foods” brand pet food.  Approximately 17 cats and dogs have died so far, and the company says it will take responsibility for pet medical expenses incurred as a result of the food. That surprised me, but then again, what expenses would their be after the pet died?? The end of the article mentions how a media spokesman said that some recalled items were still on store shelves because it would take too much time for retailers to sort through all the dates…oh?  That’s not the best thing to say in my opinion, he might as well have said “basically the retailers that distribute our products are too lazy to sort through their shelves so your pets are still going to die.” As obsessed as my family is with our dog…I think my dad knew about this pet food recall before it was even announced.

Tiger tearing down $50 million mansion, building another.

tiger

I found this blog talking about something I’ve heard a little about since my dad and brothers are big golf fans. Tiger Woods plans on tearing down a $48 million mansion in Florida to build another one in the same exact spot. I commented on the blog that if there’s anything that proves you’re a millionaire with money to throw-away, it’s the fact that you bought a $50 million estate just to tear it down and build a new one. Is there really no other house that you liked?? I think he just didn’t look hard enough. I actually thought this had already happened because I heard my father and brothers talking about it a while ago, but I guess not. The article actually says the mansion he plans to build is going to be smaller than the one that is currently there, interesting. I’m assuming this new one will have a nursery….he and his wife, Elin Nordegren, are expecting their first child this summer. Tiger’s father, who he called his “best friend”, passed away recently from cancer.

Hef and Holly becoming exclusive??

Hef

I found this entertainment blog about Hugh Hefner talking about his “#1 Girlfriend Holly Madison”. He says that he may in the future make his and Holly’s relationship monogamous. I think that at 81 years old, what’s he waiting for?? The most surprising part of this interview is the part where he says that he know Bridget and Kendra are at the mansion for different reasons (other than Holly), is that blatently implying that he knows they’re there for money?? I really didn’t think he’d come out and say that. Although I do watch the show on E!, (The Girls Next Door) I can’t get used to the fact that these three young girls call Hugh Hefner there boyfriend, Kendra- the youngest, is younger than me! Holly says that she wants to marry him and have kids with him which in a way I think is sad because no one lives forever and he seems as if he doesn’t want to do that anytime soon. I really am curious to see what happens when the tv show stops filming and when there is no more Hugh Hefner for these girls to get there money from.
